Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for credentialing, healthcare professionals must:
- Hold a valid degree from an accredited institution.
- Obtain certification in smoking cessation training from a recognized organization.
Training Components
- A self-paced e-learning module.
- A 2-Day Workshop on Motivational Interviewing and Special Populations.
- Monthly case discussions over a 6-month to 1-year period.
Delivery Methods
A combination of lectures, case studies, presentations and self-paced e learning.
At the end of the program, participants will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Knowledge of nicotine addiction and cessation guidelines.
- Skills in patient assessment and individualized cessation planning and documentations.
- Communication techniques, including motivational interviewing.
Evaluation Methods
Performance metrics will track, among others:
- A minimum of 6 hours of continuing education.
- A 15% quit rate among at least three patients from special populations.
- Peer review activities contributing to CPD points.
By implementing these guidelines, the program aims to enhance the quality, accessibility, and effectiveness of smoking cessation services in Malaysia, ultimately contributing to national tobacco control efforts and improving public health outcomes.
