Ever thought of quitting smoking or vaping? Quiting is one of the best things that you can do for yourself and your loved ones

Tobacco use is one of the leading causes of preventable disease, disability, and death in Malaysia. Smoking causes diseases like cancer, lung diseases, heart diseases, stroke and many more complications It is estimated that more than 27,200 of Malaysians deaths annually are related to smoking. The National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2019 estimated that 21.3% or about 4.9 million Malaysians aged 15 years and above smoke cigarettes. Alarmingly, 17.4% of boys and girls aged 13 to 15 years are smokers.

The NHMS Survey also documented 600,000 Malaysians aged 15 to 24 use e-cigarettes or vape. Evidence supporting vaping as a safe and effective method to help to quit smoking is still lacking. In fact, vaping is harmful, especially to the heart and lungs. Besides that, it is addictive, just like cigarettes.

Non-smokers, who are exposed to second hand smoke (SHS), which is the smoke released from the burning end of a cigarette or smoke exhaled by a smoker, are also at higher risks of getting lung cancer, heart disease, stroke and respiratory illnesses.

Both cigarettes and electronic cigarettes contain harmful chemicals. Of more than 7000 chemicals in a cigarette, more than 200 of these are confirmed toxins and carcinogens. E-cigarettes have around 2000 chemicals, including carcinogen; chemicals found in herbicide and paint solvent; heavy metals, volatile organic compound found in car exhausts and much more.

Therefore, let’s begin today with an aim to quit smoking and vaping. It’s never too late! See the difference in your health and your loved ones’ health too. Smoking and vaping is a physical addiction and a psychological habit. To be able to go smoke or vape free, the addictions, and habits must be addressed, with the right support and quit plan.
